A STUDY ON COMPARISON OF THE METHODS FOR THE ANALYSIS OF SAPONIN IN GINSENG PRODUCTS

Abstract
A newly modified Soldati¢¥s method (elution method) was compared with the classical extraction method. . This study was aimed to save the time required and the solvent consumed in the analysis of ginseng saponin. The experiments using the two methods were conducted with purified saponin commercial ginseng extract, and ginseng tea products.
The results were as follows:
1. The elution method for extracting saponin resulted in shortening the time and decreasing the solvent consumption.
2. By the elution method, the recovery rates of ginsenosides in the purified saponin were almost 100 percent. The differences of the rates between the extraction and elution methods were statistically significant in especially ginsenoside-Rgi, -Rf, -Re, -Rd and-Rb2 (P3. HPLC chromatograms were used in order to estimate the quantity_ of ginsenoside in commercial ginseng extract and ginseng tea products. The chromatogram showed that the most ginsenoside peaks by the elution method were higher than those by the extraction method. However, the differences between two methods were not statistically significant except ginsenoside-Ra in ginseng tea products.
4. From the above results, it was found that the elution method was superior to the classical extraction method in extracting the-saponin if we decrease hazardous factors by reducing the experimental time and the solvent consumption.
